A FARM worker has been found hanged in a building at his Blacko farm home.
Scott Andrew Pighills, 23, who had recently applied to join the British Transport Police, was working on the family farm helping his step-father Simon Dalglish. He was found by members of his family at about 3.30am on Thursday in a building used as a sheep shed.
Insp Paul Robinson said: "Police were called to Admergill Hall Farm, Blacko, in the early hours. Naturally his family, especially his mother, are particularly distraught."
Mr Pighills was a single man with a brother and sister and was living with his mum and step-father and helping out at the farm.
Mr Dalglish said: "He was staying with us. He was a warehouseman locally but was helping us on the farm. He had travelled the world, including Australia and America to gain worldly experience for his ambition to join the police. He had applied to join the British Transport Police." Scott was a former member of the Air Cadets at Nelson and had attended Nelson and Colne College.
He had also played football with local teams. Mr Dalglish said the family were deeply shocked by what had happened.
Insp Robinson said police inquiries were continuing and the facts had been reported to the East Lancashire Coroner.
An inquest will be held into the tragedy.
Insp Robinson added: "There are no lines of inquiry to suggest anyone else was involved."
