REGARDING your story about residents being angry about a 'Welcome to Blackburn' sign being put up on the A666 road in Darwen (LET, December 17). This would appear to be the third such mistake made by Blackburn with Darwen Council over the last year or so.
We had Darwen Tower being referred to as Blackburn Tower (maybe a mistake), then we had signs in Blackburn with Darwen spelled as 'Darwin' (maybe stupidity). Now we have had a sign put outside the cemetery on Bolton Road saying 'Welcome to Blackburn' (maybe blooded-mindedness on Blackburn Council's part).
How is it possible for Darwen people to consider themselves to be in partnership with Blackburn when fundamental mistakes like these continue to happen?
ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
