COUNCILLOR Ashley Whalley is at it again.
Not long ago he claimed the late start to alterations in Church Street, Blackburn, were because of delays caused by trader Jeff Stone during the consultation process.
Coun Whalley ought to have known there would be considerable objections to such major works to the main thoroughfare of the town and planned the consultation process earlier.
Now (LET, December 21) he blames motorists for the congestion since the opening of the new orbital route.
Is it surprising when there are insufficient directional signs at appropriate places, when the flow of traffic is contrary to what local motorists have been used to for decades and when the system opened at a time of year when vehicular traffic is at its heaviest?
These problems appear to be because of poor planning and bad timing.
Coun Whalley is in charge of the regeneration of the town -- a very responsible position -- so why doesn't he accept responsibility when things go wrong and take at least some of the blame?
GORDON ECCLES, North Bank Avenue, Blackburn.
