A TRADITIONAL tale of true love -- with a twist -- is on the cards for Greenbrook Methodist Church's production of Cinderella next week.

The show, at the church hall in Greenbrook Road, Lowerhouse, Burnley, opens on Tuesday and runs until next Saturday. Shows start at 7.15pm and there is a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Producer Edward Munday, who is also playing Buttons, said the annual post-Christmas pantomime seems to fit in well with the church's calendar of events.

"We get good audiences and last year we were able to give more than £1,000 to the church," he said.

The role of Cinderella is being played by Lindsey Simpson and the show's finale is something special.

"There's even an appearance by Cilla Black -- but that's all I'm saying," Edward said.

The baron's family is being modelled on the Addams family, so expect to see a Morticia lookalike lurking on stage. The chorus is made up mainly of members of the church's girls' brigade.

Another unusual twist to this year's production is the reappearance of some door hinges from Rose Grove church, which was destroyed by fire in the 1970s.

Edward said: "The original players used to be in Rose Grove and we moved to Greenbrook. This year we have sponsorship from Atlas Tools, who have taken over the site of the old Rose Grove church, and they found some original hinges which are being used on a big door on the set."

The pantomime is also being sponsored by Padiham Paint, and the two companies provide hardware, wood and paint for the set, allowing more proceeds to go into church coffers.

Edward is also busy with Greenbrook Methodist Church operatic group which is now rehearsing for a production of Carousel from April 8-13 at the church.

Tickets for Cinderella, £4 for adults and £2.50 for children, are available from Bailey and Garrett's chemist's in Rose Grove in advance or on the door on the night.
