CLEAR out the attic and rummage through the cupboards -- you could have old photographs and coins worth a small fortune!

Putting a value on historical artifacts is not the easiest task in the world -- especially to the untrained eye.

But at an event in Bamber Bridge next week people can have their valuables scrutinised by expert auctioneers who can put a price tag on a range of collectibles.

Items such as old stamps, coins, cigarette cards and medals are all possessions which valuers from Warwick and Warwick Philatelic Auctioneers would be interested to see when they come to the Novotel, Walton Summit, Bamber Bridge, on Thursday, January 10, from 9am to 2pm, for a free valuation event.

"Many people do not realise that collections of old postcards can be quite valuable," said Colin Such, director at Warwick and Warwick. "Especially animated street scenes with trams, early motor cars and industrial views such as coalmines.

"But with the pictures it is the degree of the animation. An average street scene is usually worth a couple of pounds but a close up of a tram with children on the street could go for £20 or £30.

"Medals also vary. The average service medals are usually worth £5 but the gallantry medals are usually worth the most and can go for around £250. But it is also the whole package that makes the price go up.

"If someone had a gallantry medal and a picture of someone receiving that medal or paperwork to go with it, that would be worth a lot more than just the medal on its own."

Although Warwick and Warwick will be offering a selling service on the day people are not obliged to part with their possessions. Home visits for larger collections may be possible. Call the company on 01926 499031 for details.
