BLACKBURN Transport has announced a number of improvements to bus services in the area, with effect from Monday, January 7.

Routes from Blackburn to Wilpshire via Whalley New Road and Brownhill (currently services 2, 2A, 4, 4A) will be replaced with a new route, number 2.

All evening and Sunday journeys on route 22 will run in one direction around Mill Hill and Green Lane while service 14 from Blackburn to Sunnybower will be enhanced with the introduction of route 15.

In addition, six new Easy Access buses are to be brought into service in Blackburn to facilitate improvements on routes 2 and 31, bringing the total number of Easy Access buses operated by Blackburn Transport to 21.

The improvements bring investment in the system to almost £500,000 and means that a quarter of its commercial operation is now low floor, providing easier access for customers with all sorts of disabilities and problems boarding conventional buses.

Blackburn Transport's Managing Director, Michael Morton says: "We are pleased to announce this package of improvements to our service."
