DARWEN manager Steve Wilkes has made a New Year's resolution - for his side to start beating the lesser teams.
Wilkes's side tend to play well against the top sides - they drew 2-2 against Formby last week in a game they feel they should have won - but when they come up against the sides at the other end of the NWCL second division table they are often below par.
They meet Leek CSOB at the Anchor Ground tomorrow looking to build on last week's performance.
"We should have beaten Formby and we should have beaten Squires Gate as well but drew 1-1," said Wilkes.
"We were unbeaten in December - we only played three games and didn't win any of them though!
"We have to start turning these draws into wins and we haven't played any of the bottom sides yet so these are the games we need to win.
"But we usually play worse against the rubbish sides - it is my New Year's resolution for the team for us to start beating the sides at the bottom.
"We would go to within three points of Formby if we won our games in hand and I think we can still finish third or fourth."
