WHAT a lot of undeserved criticism Blackburn with Darwen Council has come in for of late. I refer, of course, to the plethora of recent articles and letters in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph regarding both the introduction of Blackburn's new orbital route and one-way system and the "great gritting debate."
As far as I can see, the orbital route and new one-way system work perfectly well. However, I accept that some people do tend to dislike which deviates from what they have always been used to. So no doubt it will take some time before the new route becomes accepted.
Regarding the state of the borough's roads during the recent cold snap, I have found nothing to complain about. All major roads have been clear and side roads passable with care.
No doubt the council's critics think they could do a better job. In which case there is a simple course of action open to them -- simply stand for election as local councillors when the local elections come round in May.
