THE Rugby League will be called in this week to make a ruling on Leigh Centurions' abandoned game at Hull KR yesterday.

Leigh were leading 14-2 and seemingly on course for a fifth successive victory to stay top of the NFP when a floodlight failure plunged Craven Park into semi-darkness.

With 53 minutes gone, referee Stuart Cummings brought both teams off to see if the problem could be resolved but after a 15 minute delay he opted to abandon the game completely.

Now Leigh chairman Mike Nolan will report to the RFL, claiming both match points.

"We heard a suggestion before the game that Hull KR knew there was a problem with the lighting but were prepared to take a chance.

"If that's true, they should sacrifice the points."

It did appear that there was a problem with the lights not fully operational from the start and early in the second half they went down to half power. And with fog continually rolling round the ground, referee Cummings was left with little option.

Leigh coach Paul Terzis was furious, blaming Rovers' 'incompetence'. "We play rugby league in winter and we need lights. Surely it's the responsibility of the home club to make sure those lights are up to scratch and operational.

"When the League make a decision on this one I would ask them whose fault it was. It certainly wasn't Leigh's."

The RFL Board of Directors, which now only consists of chairman Sir Rodney Walker and Operations Manager Nigel Wood, will make a decision after considering the referee's report and reports from both clubs.

In the action that did take place, Leigh were well on course for victory with Leigh scoring twice in the first half. Winger Chris Irwin picked up the first after Adam Bristow had made all the running and Jon Roper picked up another with a classy finish at the corner after Dave Bradbury's bomb had fallen kindly for Leigh. Neil Turley landed three goals. THE Rugby League will be called in this week to make a ruling on Leigh Centurions' abandoned game at Hull KR yesterday.
