LEAVING Blackburn at 5.30pm on Saturday, December 29 turned out to be somewhat of an adventure, to put it lightly!
Although snow was forecast by the media, the Council had not seen fit to grit any of the roads in the town.
Consequently, if you were not in possession of a four-wheel drive vehicle, you had problems.
The unnecessary pedestrianisation of Church Street added to the traffic chaos. It would seem that some idiotic ruling by the House of Lords means that councils are not legally obliged to grit the roads.
I wonder if the officials in the town hall will feel the need to hide behind this ruling.
V A CONYNGHAM (Mr), Billington.
