RESIDENTS supporting Pendle Council's decision to redevelop the Nelson west area by demolishing blocks of houses handed a petiton containing 100 names in advance of a public inquiry today.
The inquiry, brought by English Heritage and the Residents' Action Group, opposes the decision and was due to begin at 10am at Nelson Civic Hall.
Those opposing the scheme believe the procedures leading to the council's decision were not carried out fully and do not believe there is a need to demolish the homes.
Streets earmarked for demolition in the scheme include Stanley Street, Mosley Street and Every Street in the Whitefield area of the town.
