POLICE are hunting the driver of a car which mowed down a 63-year-old pedestrian as she crossed a Bury road.
Mrs Gaetanina Gioia suffered a fractured pelvis, cuts and bruising as a result of the hit-and-run accident. She is expected to be detained in hospital for two weeks.
The collision was shortly after 7pm on Saturday (Jan 5) in Manchester Road, near to its junction with Sunny Bank Road in Bury.
Witnesses say Mrs Gioia was crossing the road when she was struck by a red car as it overtook a car pulling away from Traffic lights.
Mrs Gioia, from Apollo Avenue, Unsworth, was thrown into the road by the Whitefield-bound vehicle.
Other motorists came to the injury woman's aid and she was taken by ambulance to Fairfield General Hospital.
Sergeant Pam Hadfield, of Bury's traffic police, said: "There is no way the driver of the vehicle in question was unaware that he or she had struck the pedestrian. There would certainly be damage to the car.
"A number of people witnessed the collision but there is still some doubt as to the make, model and registration number of the car."
Anyone who help should contact PC Vinnie Therlwall on Bury Traffic Unit on 856 8073.
