JOHN Hills opening goal was not enough for the Tangerines as Charlton came back to seal a 2-1 win in the third round of the FA Cup.

A Graham Stuart penalty and Jason Euell's eighth goal of the season saw The Addicks edge past Blackpool despite a good display from the Seasiders at The Valley.

Stuart converted from 12 yards after Brian Reid handled in the area before Euell sealed victory a minute later with a scrambled effort.

But The Addicks left it late to secure their passage into the next round after Hills handed Steve McMahon's side the lead midway through the first half.

Hills was released by winger Paul Simpson before shooting into the top corner on 20 minutes to give the visitors a half-time lead. Charlton went close to equalising a number of times before the break but keeper Phil Barnes was in inspired form for Blackpool.

Chris Powell squandered a golden chance, scooping over from close range as the first half ended with McMahon's men a goal to the good.

Blackpool looked to shut up shop after the re-start and the ploy nearly paid off before Stuart and Euell registered on the scoresheet. Reid was adjudged to have handled from Robinson and although Barnes got a hand to Stuart's spot-kick, the ball squirmed away into his net. Euell's winner came after substitute Shaun Bartlett's shot was parried into his path 60 seconds later to send Alan Curbishley's side into the fourth-round draw.
