REGARDING the criticism directed at Councillor Ashley Whalley concerning Blackburn's new orbital route, a scheme of this magnitude cannot possibly be undertaken without inconveniencing motorists, shoppers and traders alike.
However, I think that, under difficult circumstances, both Coun Whalley and Blackburn with Darwen executive committee have done exceptionally well in providing a new traffic flow system that will benefit the town enormously in terms of economic growth over the coming years -- a point that is already being proved by the excellent Christmas trade that shops and businesses in the town centre have already enjoyed.
For many years, the old town centre traffic system was criticised for being both inadequate and confusing, particularly to visiting shoppers and it was obvious that it would have to be improved.
So instead of criticising the new orbital route, we should instead be congratulating Coun Whalley on an excellent initiative that can only improve and enhance the town's reputation as an excellent place to trade, visit and shop.
ANDREW MAHON, Brandy House Brow, Blackburn.
