FIRE crews were called out to the William Blythes chemical plant in Hapton when a fire broke out in the roof of a building on the site.
The fire started at 12.50pm at the Manchester Road site and the cause is being investigated.
Four fire engines from Burnley and Padiham were called to deal with the fire in one of the plant's mixing houses.
All chemicals had been removed from that area of the fertiliser factory, as repair work was being carried out.
Lagging around some of the piping had caught fire and spread quickly to the roof of the building.
Fire officers say no one was injured.
