A TEENAGER from Burnley has denied being involved in violence which marred a one-day cricket international between Australia and Pakistan at Lord's last summer.
Aussie cricketer Michael Bevan was hit by a missile during the disturbances at the ground on June 23 and suffered slight reddening and swelling to the face, and Lord's stewards and a fan were attacked by a mob of Asians on the pitch.
Four accused, including students of 16 and 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are charged with affray, using or threatening violence towards another. They pleaded not guilty at Horseferry Road court in Westminster yesterday and district judge Rosamond Keating deemed the case so serious that it would have to be dealt with at the Crown Court.
The accused are Haroon Qureshi, 19, no occupation given, of Victoria Avenue, East Ham, East London; Pakistan-born Samiullah Khan, 19, student, of Portland Road, South Norwood, South London; the 17-year-old student from Oxford Road, Burnley, and the 16-year-old from Barking Road, Plaistow, East London.
They were remanded on unconditional bail until February 19 for Crown Court committal proceedings.
