THE foundation centre at a Burnley school could be used as the blueprint for similar projects across Lancashire following special praise in an Ofsted report.

Brunshaw Primary School, Morse Street, Burnley, was awarded top marks by Government inspectors who visited the school in October 2001.

After spending time with teachers and pupils, the examiners found the school to be "very effective and providing good value for money".

The report also found there has been very good improvement with all key issues identified in the last inspection in 1997.

But staff at the school and the foundation centre for nursery and reception classes were singled out for special praise.

Headteacher Neil Tranmer is delighted with the results and said praise for the foundation centre could mean the centre could now be used as a model for local authorities across the county.

The report said: "The headteacher and senior managers provide excellent leadership and, as a result, staff are very well supported to carry out their responsibilities and work effectively as a team."

Mr Tranmer added: "The hard work of everyone associated with the school has been recognised.

"It is a very positive report which we are all delighted about, but above all else the new foundation centre being praised is the icing on the cake."

The foundation centre opened in August 2001 and takes care of 110 nursery and reception children.
