COUNCIL bosses are set to spend more than £14,000 refurbishing a local art gallery.
Officers at Hyndburn Borough Council, meeting today at a full cabinet meeting, will recommend that a bid to refurbish Haworth Art Gallery, put in by Apple Display Systems, be recommended -- even though it was not the lowest.
Their bid, of £14,404 was the second lowest tender some £375 more than the lowest.
But councillors said the company had greater experience of supplying equipment in establishments that were similar to the gallery, in Haworth Park, off Hollins Lane, and its display units were of better appearance.
As part of the refurbishment project the gallery will get a new shop and bids were invited to supply the council with display counters, island displays and a payment counter. Four bids were received in total.
Officers from Hyndburn visited a number of sites which had equipment provided by Apple Display Systems.
