STUART Jarrold has tasted life at a higher level and now he wants to do it with Blackburn Rugby Union Club.

The new captain returned to Ramsgreave Drive this season after a two year stint at National League Sedgley Park with an aim of getting his side promoted.

And while Blackburn currently linger in a mid-table position in North Two, Jarrold strongly believes his side are good enough to finish in second place -- and go into the promotion play-off at the end of the season.

"Birkenhead Park are running away with the league but there is no reason why we can't finish in second place. That has got to be our aim for the remainder of the season.

Jarrold moved to Sedgley Park to fulfil his own ambitions but he returned to a club who he believes are equally as ambitious.

"I didn't want to go through my career wondering if I could play at a higher level or not. I enjoyed my two years at Sedgley Park where I played against he likes of Wasps.

"But I'm now back at Blackburn with an aim of getting them promoted.

He added: "While it is difficult to say whether Blackburn will ever get in to the National League, I definitely think they are good enough to get out of this league."

And if Jarrold's commitment is anything to go by then there is no reason why the club can't fulfil his own ambitions.

"I like to lead by example," said Jarrold who first joined the club as a 19-year-old.

"I am very passionate and committed and I'm prepared to put my neck on the line for the club and expect the same from the rest of the side."

Jarrold is one of the club's longest serving players -- despite he two year absence -- and he has rightly earned the respect of his team-mates.

He started life on the wing and spent four years out wide before opting for the rough and tumble of the scrum and open side flanker.

"I'm a big hitter and I love to tackle. I want to be where the ball is rather than having to stick to a particularl position.

"And being open side flanker is the perfect place to communicate with the forwards and the pivotal roles of scrum half and outside half."

The former Pleckgate High School pupil ranks the promotion of 1997 as his greatest moment in a Blackburn shirt.

"That was a great time to be involved with the club because it was a side full of players who had come up through the Colts.

"While most of those players have now left the current crop are a good bunch and I am sure we can put a decent run together to get up the table.

"I've got at least four years left in me at first team level and I am determined to make the most of them."

And something tells you that Jarrold will not be happy playing them in the lower leagues!
