A TYLDESLEY school crossing patrol point had the highest risk assessment score in the Leigh area, according to Wigan Council figures.
Officers worked out that the island crossing point on A5082 Hough Lane / Henfold Road had the third highest level of risk in the borough, taking into account factors like the number of vehicles passing through, numbers of unaccompanied children, nearby junctions, footway sizes and general visibility.
The site was placed in the Band A category of school crossing patrols -- meaning it is a top priority and has to have a patrol at all times.
Crossing points at the Red Lion/ Nel Pane Lane on Westleigh Lane and on Hamilton Street outside Hesketh Fletcher high School also ranked in the top ten highest risk crossing points in the borough.
At the other end of the scale the crossing point at A579 Bolton Road / Greenhall Close in Atherton had the lowest risk assessment in the borough and was not thought to need a school crossing patrol at all.
