Southport 5 Leigh RMI 0
By Martyn Hindley LEIGH RMI assistant boss Dave Miller watched his side slide further towards the foot of the Nationwide Conference and declared: "We wouldn't win a game of tiddlywinks at the moment!
"I don't think we had one player on that pitch today who can claim to have done themselves justice. The players have let down the manager, the club and most of all themselves because you don't go from being a top six side one season to one that doesn't look like winning a game the next.
"Steve Waywell has gone home absolutely disgusted in the performance - we are talking about people's livelihoods here."
The Haig Avenue fixture was one of the few games to be played all over the country after bitter frost and treacherous conditions threatened to see a third successive RMI match postponed, although having seen the outcome the Leigh contingent probably wish that this too had been a victim of the weather.
Chris Lane's penalty gave Southport the lead but collapsed completely despite having a one-man advantage following the dismissal of Neil Grayston. Steve Whitehall hit a second before half time with three more coming in the second period from Simon Parke, Dean Howell and Phil Eastwood.
