TWO teenagers caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to two cars when they tried to steal them so they could get home, Bury magistrates were told.

Stephen Murray, aged 19, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, smashed the vehicles when they travelled to Whitefield after a night out in Manchester, but failed to get them started.

Murray, from Beswick, and the youth pleaded guilty and were given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £423 compensation and £65 costs.
