REGARDING Councillor Dave Smith's remarks (Letters, December 28) that I have complained about everything under the sun in the last few weeks, considering that he gave a shopping list of my complaints, why did he not also publish a list of problems that he has managed to make go away?

Or hasn't he done very much to make this happen?

The issues I write to this newspaper about are of concern to most Darwen people and I would have thought concern would also be forthcoming from Darwen councillors. I would also have thought that Darwen councillors would have banded together to get the best deal possible for Darwen.

But most Darweners can see multi-million pound investments in Blackburn and only minimum amounts being spent in Darwen.

We are not greedy -- we are just looking to get certain things right that we consider should not pose a problem, such as good street lighting and Darwen Tower repaired and illuminated.

Numerous others must think the same as me because they stop me in the street and tell me I am right in what I write about to the newspapers and that true Darweners do not feel that they have had a fair deal since 1974, when Blackburn promised to look after Darwen.

ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
