IT doesn't matter how much the council spends on improving Blackburn town centre, because as long as the weekend violence and drunkenness continues people will not be willing to take a chance on going to town for a night out.
A minority of louts only aim to get drunk and to cause as much mayhem as possible and if they are in groups they try to outdo each other in who can be the most stupid.
After Saturday night in Blackburn, town centre windows have been broken and broken glass is on the pavements and roads. Darwen Street is so strewn with rubbish it looks like the municipal tip.
You can spend thousands of pounds to make the town centre more presentable to visitors, but if you have a drunken minority who only want to cause trouble, then you are wasting time and money.
People on a night out want to enjoy themselves and not be confronted by drunken louts.
Blackburn is fast becoming a town where crime is rife and drugs seem to be the currency.
It is about time the police started doing the job they are paid for. Talking about cracking down on crime is a lot different from following it through.
The public demands a police force that can make us feel secure and safe in our homes and on the street.
R CUTTING (Mr), Summerville Walk, Blackburn.
