RESIDENTS have rolled up their sleeves and formed their own environment clean-up team.
Members of Topping Fold Residents' Association got stuck into the weeds and overgrown shrubbery at a footpath and motorway embankment.
The scheme has been funded by the East Bury Initiative and co-ordinated through Groundwork BEA, Bury's Environment for the Community Project.
Project manager Sandy Mohamet said: "There have been complaints in the area for some time, especially about the motorway embankment, so when we suggested that residents don't wait around any longer but tackle it themselves, they jumped at the chance.
"These are relatively minor problems but, from a local point of view, the sight of overgrown areas like this do little to enhance the overall environment of the area.
"The idea for the future is that the environmental team will tackle similar projects and that is going to make a real difference to how the estate looks."
The Topping Fold scheme has been so successful that the association's efforts were highlighted at the recent BEA Awards, when they were highly commended in the Community Project category.
