A RIVERSIDE location may sound appealing to some home owners, but the only problem for a group of Radcliffe residents is that the "river" is supposed to be a road!
They have been battling for Bury Council to do something about the state of the unadopted road at the rear of their homes for more than 30 years.
"Whenever it rains, or the snow melts, the water flows like a river. It creates mud and muck which we can't help walking into our houses," said Mr Bernard Tucker (66) who lives in the block of houses on Bury New Road near its junction with Radcliffe Moor Road.
"It's full of ruts and gullies and so it's also dangerous for children and pensioners," he added.
The road is unadopted, but Mr Tucker and his fellow residents want Bury Council to surface it before its condition declines further.
"We've been asking the council to take action for years, but they just tell us they will see what they can do and nothing happens," complained Mr Tucker.
"Some of the other residents have talked about surfacing it themselves, but I don't think that is a good idea because there are drains underneath and if they were damaged we would be held liable."
A spokesman for Bury Council said he was not aware of any complaints by Mr Tucker.
He said: "If he would like to contact Ian Walker, our engineering manager for highways management services, we would be happy to investigate the matter."
