BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent has not ruled out bringing in a loan star -- but only if the deal is right.

The Clarets manager is currently denied six members of his first team squad through injury, but has said he will not act in haste.

Skipper Steve Davis and fellow defender Mitchell Thomas are long term casualties, midfielders Glen Little and Paul Weller could face up to three weeks out each with hamstring strains and strikers Gareth Taylor (ankle) and Andy Payton (leg) are also out of the frame for some time.

Payton gashed his leg in a reserve game against Tranmere Rovers at Turf Moor in midweek.

However, Ternent felt that he had to look at quality when it came to recruiting rather than feeling pressured into action.

"I am always looking to bring people in but we have got to look at the cost and the players available," explained Ternent.

"If other clubs perceive our need then the cost could be high, but essentially I am looking at any signing as being long term.

"If we bring someone in then they have to be as good as, if not better, than what we have got if they are to prove a good long term acquisition.

"But having said that if someone became available in the short term we could look at that."

But any loan signing will not be a knee-jerk reaction.

"If there was a player we could bring in on loan than we would look at it," said Ternent.

"But it would be done with an eye to taking him more permanently.

"It is a good move in the sense that he could have a look at us and we could have a look at him.

"But if you get the right man on loan it can pep things up."
