ONLY Fools and Horses... and the maintenance department at Blackpool Tower and Circus are willing to take on the annual task of cleaning the grand chandeliers.
But the Tower certainly didn't invite Del Boy, Rodney and Grandad to give them a helping hand with their delicate operation this week. The 16 stunning Tower Ballroom ceiling lights were originally installed in 1933. Staff had the enormous task of carefully lowering all 16 chandeliers one by one, with each bulb and crystal having to be individually hand cleaned -- no small job considering there are 10,000 individual crystals, 260 crystal shades and 400 lamps that have to be carefully polished.
Assistant manager at Blackpool Tower and Circus Ian Jones said: "It's only natural that the image of Del Boy, Rodney and Grandad come to mind when we undertake this job. But I know the team at the Tower have it well in hand and the chandeliers will once again bedazzle the ballroom in the forthcoming season."
