OLIVER Przybysz had two goals when he joined a band -- to make it big and to play the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool.

And while fame and fortune might be a little way off, achieving his other ambition later this month may help pave his band's way to the top.

For Oliver, along with bandmates from Rishton outfit The Wire Monkeys, have landed themselves a prime slot at the legendary venue next Friday.

The group, made up of Oliver as lead vocalist, guitarist James Ellell, his brother Joe on drums and bass player Simon Darwin, have already been given a prestigious Friday night slot at the Roadhouse in Manchester.

That gig -- and the publicity it received in Pulse -- has led the group to try and get further dates.

Oliver said: "We sent various venues some of our work and, out of the blue, someone from the Cavern rang up and offered us a slot.

"We are really chuffed that we have got this gig because it is one of the places I have always wanted to play.

"What with it being the spiritual home of the Beatles, I think most bands fancy a chance at playing there so were are very pleased."

The group have several other gigs lined up, including one at Blackburn's North Bar.

A date has also been set to play at Chester University in a bid to build up a student following.

The group have now been together for just over a year and have evolved significantly in that time.

Their name reflects the fact that the two founder members, Oliver and James, used to be apprentice electricians, often referred to as wire monkeys.

"The Cavern is a huge opportunity for us ."
