LYTHAM beach is set to get really racy this September as the venue for the Parakarting World Championships
Parakarting is one of the latest wind-powered adrenaline sports, combining the power and manoeuvrability of a four-line parafoil (similar to a paraglider), with a low slung three wheel parakart (or buggy), which allows the pilot to travel in any direction at wild speeds, or freestyle through a whole range of wicked tricks.
Drivers are pulled along at up to 60 mph with their buttocks only four inches off the ground, powered by a huge kite that seems to have a mind of its own and no brakes.
Parakart racing combines technical skill and power to fully test a pilot's abilities against other competitors, the demands of the course and the elements.
The championships take off on September 24 to 28 with four days of fast and furious racing on Lytham beach.
An opening ceremony will take place at Lowther Pavilion on September 23 followed by pilot registration.
The event will also be open to Class Seven speed sailors.
The holding of such an event does, however, require a good deal of sponsorship from individual kite traders and manufacturers.
The Parakarting Association (PKA) is currently looking for all levels of sponsorship from £150 to £2,500-plus with a minimum of £6,000 required to run the event.
Also desperately needed are the loans of four-wheel drive vehicles to act as on site ambulances.
