WIGAN Council's social services department has helped more voluntary groups in the borough than ever before with its latest round of annual cash grants.
The department supports voluntary organisations through its Grant Aid Scheme which has a budget of £216,640.
This year the council received 133 applications for grant aid and 122 of these were awarded with more than £60,000.
Projects to benefit include a £2,000 grant to Home-Start Wigan -- which provides practical and emotional support to families with at least one child of five-years-old.
