MORE than 100 representatives of community organisations and groups throughout Lancashire attended a multi-cultural gathering organised by the probation service in Lancashire.
Held at Jan's Conference Centre, Blackburn, the event was designed to highlight the Lancashire area's commitment to equal opportunities within its own workforce, through it services to the courts and in supervising offenders in the community.
The conference coincided with the revelation that offenders from Lancashire's ethnic minorities are more likely to receive harsher community punishments.
The county branch of the National Probation Service has pledged total racial equality in its dealings with offenders and is currently working in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire to examine its case load and ensure their reports treat all offenders equally.
