SCHOOL MESSAGE: A school with a strong Roman Catholic ethos that is accepted and supported by parents and pupils.
Situated in a community with a rich diversity of cultures, ethnic origins and faith backgrounds, the school provides a friendly and supportive environment where all are encouraged to give of their best.
HISTORY LESSON: 101 years old today! The school opened with 28 scholars on the register and was erected at a cost of £1,923, 17shillings, but with the many extras the final contract was £2,2579 13 shillings and eightpence.
Not bad value per year! An extension was added in the 1960s and the new block opened in May 1994.
It originally served as both a school and a Chapel-of-Ease until 1905 when the Church of Sacred Heart began its existence as a separate mission.
NUMBER OF PUPILS: Currently 176 but hoping to rise. We would like to encourage more people to apply to our school since we have pupil vacancies in several classes.
The standards at the school are very high and appreciated by those who are fortunate enough to attend. Our results speak for themselves with very high end of Key Stage percentages but we would urge you to ask our parents if we are doing things right.
WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? Our local community in all its diversity. We have a large majority of Roman Catholics, a representative proportion of Muslims and a smaller number of other ethnic groups.
We are fortunate that we have not suffered a polarisation, as many schools have, along ethnic, cultural or religious boundaries, and seek to prepare our children well for the pluralist society in which they will ultimately co-exist.
WHAT WE OFFER: A friendly, supportive and effective Roman Catholic based primary education. Effective as evidenced in recently published league tables in National Curriculum core subjects. Supportive with our increasing range of after-school and out-of-hours opportunities. Call in and see us, or visit our websites on www.sacredheartschool.org.uk or www.angusbear.com.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A £100,00 WINDFALL? Increased storage facilities, improved playground areas, attention to the fabric of our 100-year building, nursery provision, additional classroom support, more I.C.T. opportunities, staff-release time, the wish list could fill the rest of this page.
However, no amount of money can buy the smiles on the faces of the children and knowledge in their heads, and that is still the reason why our teachers work as hard today.
