AN 82-year-old woman suffered cuts and bruises as she was dragged to the ground in an attempted handbag snatch.
The pensioner was about to enter her home in Rylands Street, Burnley, at 9.10pm last night when she was attacked from behind by a young woman wearing a baseball cap.
As the victim kept a tight grip on her handbag she was dragged to the floor. Her attacker then ran off empty handed.
Det Sgt Dave Fleming said: "The woman managed to save her bag. She suffered minor injuries and did not need to go to hospital. But she was very shocked and is very upset by what happened."
Police have carried out house to house inquiries in the Duke Bar area near to the victim's home.
The pensioner was today being interviewed by detectives hoping to get more information about the incident and the attacker.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 01282 472144 or to ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
DS Fleming said: "It is a serious incident and we are quite worried that an elderly lady should be attacked going into her home home."
