RIBBLE Valley MP Nigel Evans has pledged to fight for extra support for ME sufferers living in his constituency.
Mr Evans has written to the Health Secretary Alan Milburn to see if sufferers can get more help, after a report by Chief Medical Officer Liam Donaldson recognised the condition, Myalgic Encephalitis.
Mr Evans said: "ME, Mr Donaldson said, should be classed as a chronic condition with long term effects on health and should be recognised with illnesses.
"I am pleased that the notion of ME being a 'yuppie flu' has been discredited.
"I have written to Alan Milburn, asking him what extra resources will now be provided in the Ribble Valley and Fulwood, to help people with this illness. Much more must be done to provide better services and treatment, such as domiciliary services for those who are housebound by this disease.
"ME affects up to four people per 1,000 of the population. This recognition will provide the proper resources within the National Health Service to treat its sufferers."
