A TEENAGE boy carried out a bottle attack in Clitheroe town centre after having a lot to drink, Preston Crown Court heard.
The 16-year-old was ordered to do a hundred hours community work by a judge who told him "Having too much to drink does not entitle you or anybody else to go out and behave like a lunatic."
The boy, who cannot be named by order of the court, appeared for sentence at Preston Crown Court for unlawful wounding, which he had admitted. The offence took place in the early hours of June 20 last year when a group of youths was outside a takeaway called Speedy's.
A scuffle occurred, said Miss Rachael Woods, prosecuting.
18-year-old Irfan Younis lost his balance and when he got to his feet the defendant seemed to approach from the side and hit him.
The complainant was not aware he had been struck with a bottle, but someone else had seen the defendant lash out while holding one in his hand.
When interviewed by police the boy said he had come across a verbal argument between two groups of males. The wounding had occurred when he himself thought he was about to be attacked.
Judge Mr Justice Sachs also ordered the offender to pay £500 compensation.
