GREAT Harwood boss Denis Underwood says Kidsgrove hold no fear - despite their 13-0 trouncing of Flixton at the weekend.

The two sides clash in Staffordshire tonight in the replay of the quarter-finals of the Worthington Challenge Trophy after they drew 3-3 at the Showground last week.

While NWCL Division One title hopefuls Kidsgrove are obviously the in-form side, Underwood is prepared after his side recorded their first win in 15 league encounters with a 2-1 victory over Warrington Town on Saturday as they bid to move out of the bottom few.

"It's not a problem as it could be unlucky 13 for them," joked Underwood, who is confident his side will reach the semi-finals - where they face a two-legged affair against Newcastle Town or Atherton Collieries - despite Kidsgrove's form.

"Kidsgrove along with St Helens, Prescot and Salford will be one of the teams who are up there and will be challenging for promotion at the end of the season.

"And they have a big financial backing. The Kidsgrove chairman was saying they could go out and bid £3,000 for a Conference striker, which they may be doing.

"That is what has helped them get in the position they are in so they are a strong side.

"One of our hopes though is that they will have their eyes on their Vase game on Saturday and so may rest one or two players. This competition will not be a priority for them.

"And we will be going out with a plan to be tough tackling. We will take no prisoners."

Underwood has been impressed with a number of his players in recent weeks.

"The captain Neil Kennedy, who didn't play in the 3-3 draw because of flu, was outstanding at the back on Saturday," he enthused.

"And we have Andy Clarkson back from injury who is an experienced player who can play in midfield or at the back.

"Andy Proctor has also moved from centre back to midfield. He is good on the ball, a tall lad who can make a bigger impression from midfield rather than the back as he makes some good runs.

"He scored a superb volley on Saturday from 25 yards. It was a really good goal."

Another player who is impressing the Harwood chief is young striker Simon Garner.

He was plucked from the amateur leagues but got his first goal against Warrington Town.

"He has had four or five games now where he has had chances and not scored so I was glad when he got one, it takes the pressure off a bit," admitted the boss.

"He has been unlucky but it was a great move on Saturday with Graham Lightbown's shot saved by the keeper and it fell to Simon who made it count.

"We have a good blend of youth and experience now and although we didn't enjoy the enforced rest over Christmas, it has given us a good break. It feels like we have started the season again and hopefully this will be the turning point."
