MEP Terry Wynn, on a fact-finding regional mission to organisations supported by Euro funding, has visited Action For Blind People's employment centre.
The 150-year-old charity aims to help visually impaired people find appropriate jobs. Staff train clients in a variety of skills and help them secure places with specialist training providers.
They help with any problems that may arise because of a client's disability, and a vital part of the work is to support clients with the necessary motivation and confidence to approach the world of work.
Action for the Blind also works with employers, advising them how they can best employ and then support any workers with a visual impairment.
Mr Wynn said: "Officers told me of difficulties they experience with accessing funds, and I am confident that I can help.
"It was very valuable for me as chairman of the EU's budgets committee to see first hand how the money that leaves us as figures on a balance sheet, ends up helping seriously disadvantaged people to secure gainful employment."
