POLICE in Burnley today issued a rallying call to the public to help in their fight against drugs.
The force revealed that a number of criminals had already been arrested this year thanks to information supplied by local residents.
That includes four people arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a house in Bevington Close last Friday.
During the raid, co-ordinated by community beat officer PC Adam Gordon, a "considerable" amount of substances believed to be heroin and cocaine were seized by police.
Inspector John Clucas of Burnley Police said: "The warrant was exercised as part of the Burnley Residents Against Drugs initiative as a direct result of concerns expressed by local people.
"Without information we would simply not have been able to take action. The bottom line is, we need people to come forward and tell us about local crimes and who is committing them. In return, we will take appropriate action.
"Officers in Burnley, including the new community beat officers, are 100 per cent committed to reducing crime -- and that includes drugs crime -- but we can't do it alone. We need your help.
"If anyone knows anything about any drug related crime then they should contact us or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11. Where the information is good, we will act upon it."
