HELLO again, we haven't played very much recently with Christmas and the New Year so there is not much to report on the local front.
We did play over the weekend though, and got back to winning ways.
We played against Prairie Rangers who are a good set of lads from the Burnley area who we had previously beaten earlier on in the season.
We played against the slope at Ringstone Crescent in Nelson in the first half and defended very well, with the only score coming from a shot from Prairie's right full back which clipped the top of the bar and rolled away down the hill for about a quarter of a mile.
In the second half playing with the wind, we were prepared to camp out in their half and we did.
Lee Corns opened the scoring with a volley from a superbly taken free kick by er er...me!
Within minutes we were three up with two more well-taken goals and at this point the game looked dead and buried, but the Prairie dug deep and made a fight of it and deservedly scored, nutmegging our goalkeeper to bring the game back to life.
Enter Phil Kitchen whose substitution got us back in the driving seat.
Phil was instrumental to the team for the final 15 minutes he was winning everything in the middle of the park and created two goals in the last 10 minutes to make the scoreline slightly one-sided with the Redskins winning 5-1 -- a score which flattered us to say the least.
Robert Backy Baxter got the man of the match, but he was run close by the late sub Phil "Kempes" Kitchen and as for Andy Dibb, who scored five against them the last time we played, the drought goes on.
