AARON Smith's hopes of winning the UK Supercross Championship ended in confusion after having points deducted in the final rounds of the competition.
The 11-year-old thought he had an 11 point lead going in to the penultimate round of the event but judges cut the lead to two points after the Cardiff heat in December.
Arron finished in fourth place in South Wales but that was put down to 10th place after judges believed he had not completed the course correctly.
His father David said: "There was a crash at the start of the Cardiff heat and Aaron was ordered to start again. He had a great race and worked his way up to fourth place.
"It's wasn't until the next round in Exeter that we learnt he had been dropped to tenth place because judges said he did not complete the course."
Aaron had led the competition from the start after picking up a first and second place in the opening rounds in Belfast in November.
He strengthened that lead with another first place in Birmingham to go further ahead of arch rival Bradley Smith before his Cardiff catastrophe.
"We are not going to launch an enquiry," added David. "But I think it is a shame because a lot of people believe Aaron is the rightful champion."
Aaron was the only Lancashire rider to qualify for the competition and was among the top 12 riders in the country to make the finals of the 65cc competition.
Aaron will now be moving up to the 85cc class with the Outdoor National Championships beginning in March.
David added: "To make next year's Supercross Championship Aaron will have to finish in the top 12.
"It will be tough because he will be racing against riders who are older than him but we are sure he can do it."
