THE arrival of the euro is giving Bury's Mayor a chance to make some extra cash for his charity causes.
Staff at Bury Council's cash offices at Bury Town Hall, Whittaker Street in Radcliffe and Prestwich are helping out the first citizen, Cllr Paul Nesbit, with his fund raising efforts by accepting any foreign currency coins that are brought in.
People may only donate the equivalent of a few pence in the soon-to-be defunct former currencies of countries such as France, German, Italy and Ireland, but when the whole amount is cashed in, it should bring in a substantial amount for the Mayoral charities.
