A FINE all-round performance from Niall Burke and a match winning batting display by Jordan Clarke guided Darwen A to a 26-run victory against the B team in the under 11s final.
It was the first final of the Red Rose Drylining six-a-side Cricket competition which was organised by the Blackburn and Darwen Cricket Development Group.
Batting first, Darwen A reached a gross total of 163 which was reduced to 148 -- five runs deducted for each wicket lost.
Clarke clocked up 13 runs with but was bowled out once during his allotted overs at the crease.
Burke got his eye in from the start and rattled up 11 quick runs to remain unbeaten at the close.
Darwen B put up a fine battle and Mark Natrass was the pick of their bowlers, claiming one wicket for six runs.
In reply, Darwen B were never really given much chance to get too many runs on the board thanks to some fine bowling by the A team players.
Darwen B reached a gross total of 137 but their lose of three wickets reduced their total to 122.
Michael Boardman was the pick up the batsmen reaching nine not out.
Burke bowled two overs conceding just seven runs.
The cup and medals were presented by Neil Cordingley, the new Whalley professional.
The under 13s competition started on the same night at Darwen Leisure Centre and the first section included Whalley, Darwen B, Edgworth and Feniscowles.
Performances of the day came from A Brown of Darwen who made 36 runs with three lives lost. Whalley's J Simpson was the best bowler taking three wickets and conceding just four runs.
Edgworth lead the way with four points after two games with Whalley in second with two points. Darwen and Feniscowles are yet to score.
