EXPERIENCED defender Mitchell Thomas returned to action for the Clarets after five months out through injury but he was not on the field when the floodgates opened.

The former Tottenham and Luton star managed 50 minutes of action in his first outing since September, but after his departure the young Clarets side wilted as the Welsh dragons breathed fire.

Trinidad and Tobago international winger Carlos Edwards proved a key figure for Wrexham as he set up three goals.

Wrexham went ahead after only 13 minutes when Martyn Chalk back-heeled a free-kick to former Chorley striker Lee Trundle who beat Clarets keeper Luigi Cennamo with a low drive.

Trialist defender Sergei Kandaurov, who played a full 90 minutes, had a hand in the Clarets drawing level 11 minutes later when the Ukrainian international started a move and Anthony Shandran set up Damien Hindle to score.

On the stroke of half-time Wrexham regained the lead when right full-back Adrian Moody tucked away a simple finish.

Thomas was unlucky not to put the Clarets back on terms in the second half with a header that went just over the bar, but his departure led to a Wrexham goal burst.

On 67 minutes Edwards created the third for Danny Williams, on 82 minutes Mark Evans headed the fourth and three minutes later and it was five, when Trundle bagged his second.

A 30 yard thunderbolt from Chalk made it six and Edwards rounded off the rout with a 25-yard shot.
