CALLUM Fitzpatrick's hopes of winning the Reebok Cross Country Challenge are still alive after the Hyndburn ace took second place in the latest round in Cardiff.
The new under 13 Lancashire Champion will be looking to win the final round at Nottingham on February 9 as the race will carry double points.
A second Lancashire Champion Pauline Powell of Blackburn Harriers was 11th in the senior ladies race as she builds for Nottingham which doubles as the World Championship Trial.
Preston Harrier Helen Pattinson was a close second as she and Bedford's Liz Yelling ran away from the field.
ANNA Kelly of Clayton Harriers and Karen Bain of Red Rose Road Runners were the F35 and F40 class winners in Sunday's Garstang 10K Road Race.
With competition tough as nearly 350 took part it was the local women who shone the brightest. Chorley AC's Janet Pound finished second F45 while Darwen Dasher Pat Ashton was second over 60.
Nearest our men came to victory were the second places gained by the Clayton pair Andrew Taylor in the M40's and Richard Lawson in the M60's. Race winners were Salford's Scottish International Neil Wilkinson and Louise Sharp from Keswick.
HYNDBURN Athletic Club are holding their Annual Presentation Evening at the Platt Social Club, Accrington on Saturday 26 January at 7pm. Club members can get their tickets from the Clubhouse at Wilson's.
GEORGE Ehrhardt completed a double by winning the eight mile long Tor Outdoor Ovenden Fell Race. The Todmorden Harrier has now won Allan Greenwood's first two events of the year from the Ogden Reservoir near Keighley.
George went round in 56:10 as only seven runners cracked the one hour mark. Just squeezing home in 59:59 was team mate Stewart Gregory while a third Tod runner, Jane Smith finished second lady. Clayton's Jack Holt was the winning over 50 as Rossendale brothers Thornton and Ken Taylor each finished second in class.
Accrington Road Runners Debbie Gowans, Ian Wilcock, Jane Grundy and Dave Fielding completed the 25 mile long Two Crosses Challenge on Sunday.
Accompanied by Blackburn Road Runner Fran Finnerty they ran round Turton Tower, Belmont Tower, Turton Moor, Entwistle Reservoir, Pilgrims Cross and Holcombe Tower in 5 hours 3 minutes.
Although organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association, the event included a runners 5/8 class.
