IT was party time at a Preston sports club when dozens turned up to celebrate a special birthday.
Members of Preston Panthers sports club invited civic dignitaries and other guests to the bash on Saturday to celebrate the club's first birthday.
Preston Mayor, councillor Alan Hackett, joined other revellers at the club's base at West View Leisure Centre, Preston, where the Panthers' facilities for disabled youngsters was given three cheers.
John Coxhead, secretary of the Preston Disability Sports Forum, said: "The children play most games including football and basketball and they really have a great time.
"We provide facilities so that the children can meet new friends and enjoy all the fun of sport just as much as able-bodied children. We are glad to be celebrating our first birthday and it's been a smashing day."
Since it was founded Preston Panthers, based at West View Leisure Centre, Preston, has gone from strength to strength running games, sports and events for children with disabilities.
Together with local schools, leisure clubs and parents, the Preston Disability Sports Forum give the 86-member club the chance to develop the service.
Councillor Alan Hackett paid tribute to the children, club and organisers. He said: "The children want to have fun and they make the most of their abilities to play all sorts of sports and games.
"I'm honoured to attend and wish them all the best for continued success."
The club runs every Saturday from 11.30am to 1pm and costs £1 each session. Anyone with a disabled child who is interested in joining the Preston Panthers should call John on 01772 558863.
