PHILLIP Davies, 42, of Redmond Street, Darwen, was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £55 costs by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to being found drunk.
The court heard that police called to Nancy Street found Davies lying face down in the road with a three-litre bottle of White Lightning cider lying next to him.
He was unable to talk or move any parts of his body and was arrested for his own safety.
Ian Huggan, defending, said Davies had been unable to work for 14 years since an accident in which he crushed vertebrae in his back.
"Recently he has found things extremely difficult and he has hit the bottle," said Mr Huggan.
"He realises he has to take steps himself and he is hopeful he will be able to get a place on an intensive programme of detoxification."
