REGARDING Lancashire police considering LPG conversions for their vehicles (LET, January 3), some 10 years ago Blackburn Council was supposed to have spent £500,000 on a gas station at the Davyfield vehicle depot, the gas supply having to be piped from Blackamoor Road.
When the work was completed, a gas converted Sherpa van was seen on TV running around the streets of Blackburn.
No council vehicles were ever converted and some years later the plant was dismantled. I often wondered why the change of fuel never happened.
