A BURY College student is on the road to independence thanks to a local driving school.
Darren Mack, who was born with cerebral palsy, has passed his driving test with flying colours. The 17-year-old took lessons with instructor Jane Hogan, from the BSM centre in Market Street, Bury. Both are pictured as the teenager celebrates his pass.
She said: "Darren worked hard and I am delighted that he has achieved his ambition at the first attempt.
"Students with disabilities, especially teenagers like Darren, realise that being able to drive can open up a host of opportunities."
BSM Mobility training is provided in specially-adapted Vauxhall Corsa automatic cars with dual-control.
Darren, whose condition is characterised by involuntary muscle movements, had previously travelled by taxi to Bury College, where he is studying for an AVCE in Business.
The Heywood teenager, who wants to go on to university to study for a business degree, added: "Learning to drive was great, but I couldn't wait to pass my test because now I'll be able to get out and about more by myself."
