AS YEAR 11 pupils look ahead to their options if they are leaving school this summer, an East Lancashire training group may have the answer.

Pendle Training, which is based in Nelson, is planning a massive careers show aimed at 16-year-olds who are still in the classroom.

Events manager Karl Patterson said that the show, Jobs 2000, would provide invaluable information for students and their parents who would like to look at jobs available under the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme.

The scheme provides on-the-job training, a qualification and a wage. "The apprenticeships are recognised by employers everywhere and are a great first step on the career ladder," Mr Patterson said.

"Qualified staff from a wide range of sectors will be available to give advice and answer any questions that young people or their parents may have," he added. As well as many local employers, representatives from the Careers Service and the Learning and Skills Council will be on hand to provide advice.

Students and their parents are welcome at Jobs 2002, which will take place at Pendle Training in Netherfield Road, Nelson, on Thursday, February 7, between 5pm-9pm.
